With energy efficiency on a lot of people’s minds, either to help with the reduction of carbon footprints in plastic fabric manufactruing, or if you’re looking to help manage the cost energy bills, these are our best tips for energy saving window blinds.
The right window blinds can have a much bigger impact than you may think.
Around 40% of household heat can escape through uncovered windows. Recent Independent research via the BBSA has now proven that window blinds and shutters reduce heat loss by up to 33% and can lower the gain in heat in the summer.

Our eco-friendly roller blinds made with yarn spun from recycled plastic waste and responsibly sourced bamboo wooden venetian blinds are both great options when considering overall environmental impact and your carbon footprint.
As a rule, you will save energy by closing your blinds or curtains as the sun goes down to retain the warm air in the room into the night and also by reducing summertime heat (and the need for air conditioning) in keeping them closed on hot days.
Choosing one of our recycled blockout styles further cuts down both light and energy loss and thermal blinds made from fabrics with ASC backing have been shown to minimise household bills even greater by up to an extra 15% during Winter.
Although any window covering will offer a degree of protection against heat loss (and therefore energy consumption) there are products that do so to a higher percentage.
Internal shutters are not only extremely desirable at the moment, they can reduce heat loss by up to 28%. Our Urban Shutters are a great affordable option. With excellent insulating properties, they help reduce excess noise and are also 100% recyclable.
Under testing on a standard double glazed window blinds in Perfect Fit frames were seen to be the most efficient, in particular when combined with Cellular Blockout fabrics.
This style of pleated fabric has a honeycomb like structure and metallic backing for a thermal barrier between the room and the window, creating a protective layer that minimises the loss of heat and reduces cold draughts. Using these with Perfect Fit, which neatly into your window frame (without screws or drilling) removing any gaps and creating a seal that is the ultimate in retaining heat with up to 33% of energy saved.
