Excel’s story began in 2005 when directors Stephen and Janet Halliwell and Nathan and Joanne Schofield set up business in an empty unit on a Huddersfield business park. The building’s keys in one hand and a broom in the other, Nathan and Stephen embarked on clearing the way for a bright future as window blind suppliers.
Whether you’ve long since worked with Excel or this is the first you’ve heard of us, we’re still here in Huddersfield, proud of our heritage and the town’s fame for its historical textile manufacturing.

Excel opens its doors in unit 1 of Fieldhouse Business Park, Huddersfield.
We introduce the Excellence range of fabrics. Meanwhile, the first mezzanine floor is installed into unit 1.
The first computerised order-processing system is installed and order input time is reduced by 57%.
Unique to Excel, digitally printed roller, vertical, venetian and pleated blinds are launched.
As the business grows so too does our premises and Excel expands in the unit next door.
The Desire range of fabrics is launched. Plus, Excel goes ‘child safe’, three years prior to the significantly revised child safety requirements of BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014.
We launch Primo duo roller blind fabric, while Excel’s first BBSA showcase wins the ‘highly commended stand’ award.
Excel goes live with a fully barcoded production and order system.
Excel announces it’s now fully family-owned. Plus, we play host to a week of free child safety seminars and online ordering is launched with customer training.
We celebrate 10 years in business with an expansion – a mezzanine is installed in unit 2. And at the BBSA showcase, we win ‘best large stand in show’.
The One Unique Collection is launched – six product types and 953 SKUs in an easy-to-use lightweight binder.
We launch two exclusive soft fabric collections. The Classic range features plain and textured fabrics, while the Bronte is packed with contemporary colours and design.
The luxurious Harewood soft fabric range is released and we launch stunning roller and vertical range, the One Exclusive Collection.
As we expand into a third unit on the business park, we also unveil our striking new logo and launch a new, more customer-friendly website to better showcase our product offering and reflect the business’ values as it continues to grow.
