After a staff nomination back in October last year the Directors here at Excel were surprised to learn they were nominees, let alone being shortlisted for The Family Business of the Year awards 2021.
We have recently learned that we are now Finalists in multiple categories (Manufacrturing, Homes & Gardens and Regional) for an award and we couldn’t be happier. As family owners of Excel, being recognised for something as personal as how we run our business as a family is both extraordinary and an honour. Our success, as with all our endeavours is down to the hard work of every last member of our staff within our extended family business.

"We are nominating Excel and it's directors for this award in the year of their 15th anniversary as they have gone above and beyond to protect the business and every single member of staff during a trying year for all companies. Not only family themselves with further family members in the business, the entire company and its employees are embraced as a part of their family and they also extend this ethos to our customers taking an ‘opening relationships’ approach rather than just being about closing sales. Many staff and customers alike have been with them since the day they opened 15 years ago and it’s the personable level of service that comes as part of this atmosphere that is always mentioned when we are recommended to new customers."
It may not seem like we've had the greatest of achievements compared to some, we haven’t done much to change the world or even the blind industry (yet!) but for staff at Excel, working here as an actual part of the family, supported by Directors (especially of a business of this size) who get their own hands dirty, are willing to do the same job as their staff when needed and would, and have, helped them out no question both in and out of work.
For a family business award our company is the true essence of family.
